Rowing is supposedly one of the best aerobic exercises out there, which naturally begs the question, “Why don’t I own a rowing machine?”
In my life, motivation seems to come in bursts, and every now and then the energy gets focused on exercise. I’ve bought exercise equipment in the past, but always on a budget, which I think contributed a great deal to how much I’ve hated almost every piece of exercise equipment I’ve ever owned.
For example, the last time I stumbled across the idea that rowing was the best thing in the world, I bought a Stamina Body Trac Glider 1050 Rowing Machine:
It was awful. For me, anyway. I think I was just too big for it, and I couldn’t get my feet to stay in, and I just hated it every single time I used it.
This time around, I think I’m going to do it right, and from all the research I’ve done it seems like the best option out there is the Concept2 Model D Indoor Rowing Machine:
The University of Minnesota had a bunch of these in their gym, and I remember using it as a warmup and thinking, “Damn, this is so much better than that piece of shit body trac, I wish I had one of these at home.”
So now, probably 6 years later (I don’t want to count), I think I’m finally going to do it.
If I do get the machine, the biggest unknown is whether or not I’ll be able to establish and maintain a real exercise habit for the first time in my life.
Will I buy it? Will I use it excitedly for a few days before pretending I don’t remember it exists?
